Baseball Game Preview: Springstead Eagles vs. Doral Academy Firebirds

The Springstead Eagles will venture away from home to take on the Doral Academy Firebirds at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Springstead 3.5, Doral Academy 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Things were looking good for Springstead after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Florida Christian by a score of 3-2.

Nathaniel Sabino made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Nathan Marsh was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Doral Academy entered their tilt with Gulliver Prep on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 19-6 win. The Firebirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Aaron Elissalt looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Doral Academy got a massive performance out of Gabriel Milano, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Leandro Hernandez also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

Doral Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gulliver Prep only posted a batting average of .364.

Doral Academy's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Springstead, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-4.
