Basketball Recap: Miya Tatum and Jamiyah Powell Secure Win for Macon-East Montgomery Academy

Macon-East Montgomery Academy won the last time they faced Escambia Academy and things went their way on Saturday too. The Macon-East Montgomery Academy Knights blew past the Escambia Academy Cougars 57-31.

Leading Macon-East Montgomery Academy to victory were Jamiyah Powell and Miya Tatum. Powell dropped a double-double on 21 points and 25 boards, while Tatum posted 16 points along with eight boards and five steals. Powell's afternoon made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Taylor, who put up six points and three steals.

Macon-East Montgomery Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Macon-East Montgomery Academy has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.6 points per game. As for Escambia Academy, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Macon-East Montgomery Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Springwood at 7:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. Escambia Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Sparta Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
