Baseball Recap: Thornton Academy Has No Trouble Against Deering

Thornton Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 20-run drubbing they dealt Deering on Tuesday. The Trojans were the clear victors by a 21-1 margin over the Rams. That looming 21-1 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

Jacob Fish made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fish was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other pitching news, Blake Bolduc looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.

Back at the plate, Thornton Academy let Brennan Tabor and Brayden Duane run wild. Tabor got on base in all four of his plate appearances with four runs, while Duane went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four runs gave Tabor a new career-high. Noah Fullerton was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Thornton Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Deering only posted an OBP of .286.

The victory keeps Thornton Academy at an undefeated 6-0-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Deering, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Looking ahead, Thornton Academy will challenge Massabesic at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Deering, they will square off against Portland at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
