Basketball Game Preview: Beech Grove Hornets vs. Southport Cardinals

The Beech Grove Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Southport Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Beech Grove is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Pike on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Beech Grove lost 72-46 to Pike. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while the Red Devils are ranked 69th).

Despite the loss, Beech Grove got top-tier performance from Tyris Reid, who went 6 of 13 en route to 19 points. The team also got some help courtesy of TyQuan Lee, who posted eight points.

Meanwhile, Southport came up short against Ben Davis on Wednesday and fell 59-47.

Beech Grove has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Southport, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

Beech Grove might still be hurting after the 71-49 loss they got from Southport when the teams last played back in January of 2024. Can Beech Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
