Baseball Recap: Smith Vo-Tech Has No Trouble Against Commerce

Smith Vo-Tech got themselves on the board against Commerce on Monday, but Commerce never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Red Raiders. The victory continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Red Raiders: they've now won six in a row.

James Lavallee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Lavallee was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaleb Jorritsma, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Jorritsma is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Corey Krikendall, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

Smith Vo-Tech pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average this season. As for Commerce, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coincidentally, Smith Vo-Tech and Commerce will both be playing Putnam Vo-Tech the next time they take the field. The Vikings will host the Beavers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Red Raiders will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
