The Gig Harbor Tides will venture away from home to square off against the Bellarmine Prep Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Gig Harbor is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Gig Harbor is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Lincoln get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Max Bergford looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Gig Harbor got a massive performance out of Jayce Corley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave Corley a new career-high. Ethan Mar also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Gig Harbor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Bellarmine Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against Mount Tahoma on Wednesday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. With that win, the Lions brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Joshua Morales looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Spencer Truebenbach and Raiden Calcotte did most of the damage at the plate: Truebenbach scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3, while Calcotte scored two runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-3. Bellarmine Prep is 2-1 when Truebenbach posts two or more runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Aaron Barnhart was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Gig Harbor's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Bellarmine Prep, their record is now 3-4.
Gig Harbor came out on top in a nail-biter against Bellarmine Prep in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tides since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
