Softball Recap: Hunt's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Hunt had to endure a five-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past the Smithfield-Selma Spartans 24-6 on Friday. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Hunt got a massive performance out of Melaina Dixon, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave Dixon a new career-high. Allyson Winstead was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing Three bases. while going 3-for-3.

Hunt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hunt's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-5. As for Smithfield-Selma, their defeat was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hunt will venture away from home to challenge Southern Wayne at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Smithfield-Selma, they will head out on the road to face off against Southeast Raleigh at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Southeast Raleigh has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 22.4 runs per game on average), something Smithfield-Selma will no doubt try to take advantage of.
