Football Game Preview: Waldwick/Midland Park Warriors vs. Cresskill Cougars

Two dominant signal callers in Dylan Ferrara and Jake Lewin are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Waldwick/Midland Park Warriors will venture away from home to face off against the Cresskill Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Waldwick/Midland Park will be strutting in after a victory while Cresskill will be coming in after a defeat.

Waldwick/Midland Park's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 41-0 win over North Arlington. That looming 41-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

Waldwick/Midland Park found their leader in sophomore Ferrara, who rushed for 261 yards and three TDs on only 15 carries, and also threw for 54 yards and one touchdown. Luciano Mayer also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Warriors are undefeated when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

Waldwick/Midland Park was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 399 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 218 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Waldwick/Midland Park's defense and their 5.5 sacks. Josiah Wheeland was especially locked on to North Arlington's QB and sacked him twice. Waldwick/Midland Park got some further help from Brian Rock: he picked up 1.5 sacks, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles (2.5 for loss).

Meanwhile, Cresskill played a tough game on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 34-6 loss at the hands of Rutherford. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 21-0.

Waldwick/Midland Park is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 3-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.0 points over those games. As for Cresskill, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record.

Waldwick/Midland Park took their win against Cresskill in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 32-7 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
