Softball Recap: Eastlake Now 7-1 over Last Eight Games

After only two runs in their last game, Eastlake made sure to put some runs up on the board against Burges on Thursday. The Eastlake Falcons put the hurt on the Burges Mustangs with a sharp 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won eight matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Giana Diaz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two hits, the most she's had since back in February of 2024.

In other batting news, Eastlake let Lena Rojas and Samantha Ponce run wild. Rojas went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Ponce scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Julianna Perez, who scored a run.

Eastlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burges only posted a batting average of .125.

Eastlake is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 7.25 strikeouts in those games compared to only 3.5 in the others. This is the second loss in a row for Burges and nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Eastlake didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 17-0 victory against Hanks on the 27th. As for Burges, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 18-0 win against Van Horn on the 27th.
