Softball Recap: Grants Pirates vs. Thoreau Hawks
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Belen, Grants was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Thoreau Hawks 18-3. With that win, Grants brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Olivia Toivanen made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Toivanen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Grants got a massive performance out of Kymber Cash, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Aubrhyanna Garcia was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Grants' victory ended a ten-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-15. As for Thoreau, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Grants is on the road again on Thursday to play Valencia at 6:00 p.m. As for Thoreau, they will be playing at home against Newcomb at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
