The Sissonville Indians are taking a road trip to challenge the Riverside Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sissonville has six straight wins, Riverside has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Sissonville gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Nicholas County by a score of 8-5.
The team relied heavily on Eli Simonton, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Barrett Van Camp, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Riverside came up short against Oak Hill on Wednesday, falling 13-5.
Kaleb Shanklin made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and earned one RBI, one run, and three stolen bases. Another player making a difference was Caden Lipscomp, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Sissonville's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Riverside, their loss dropped their record down to 7-18.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sissonville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Riverside struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Sissonville's way against Riverside in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Sissonville made off with a 10-4 victory. Do the Indians have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
