Basketball Preview: Stanhope Elmore Mustangs vs. Carver Montgomery Wolverines
Stanhope Elmore has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Carver Montgomery Wolverines at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Stanhope Elmore scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They came out on top against Prattville by a score of 80-69.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Carver Montgomery's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to Enterprise 67-61. While losing is never fun, Carver Montgomery can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Wildcats are ranked 14th).
Despite the defeat, Carver Montgomery got a solid performance out of Landon Parker, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Parker has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Conor McPherson, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Stanhope Elmore's victory bumped their record up to 9-17. As for Carver Montgomery, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-13.
Stanhope Elmore suffered a grim 73-53 defeat to the Wolverines in their previous matchup two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of McPherson, who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Now that Stanhope Elmore knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
