Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Plainfield South). They secured a 33-28 W over the Plainfield East Bengals on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their seven-point performance the matchup before.

Among those leading the charge was Artie Gamino, who picked up 105 receiving yards and one touchdown. Those 105 receiving yards gave him a new career-high.

Another reason for the win was Plainfield South's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. In that department, Khalil Truman was the leader with two.

Plainfield East's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Croom, who rushed for 108 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Markeith Taylor, who picked up 86 receiving yards and one score.

Plainfield South's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Plainfield East, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Plainfield South and Plainfield East could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Cougars will challenge Yorkville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (233 vs. 56). Meanwhile, Plainfield East (ranked 260th) will meet Plainfield North (ranked 123rd) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
