Basketball Recap: Berkeley Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Summerville

On Friday, Berkeley faced Summerville in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Berkeley Stags took a 44-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Summerville Green Wave. The contest marked the Stags' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Despite the loss, Berkeley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alaina Carter went 6 of 15 on her way to 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Madison-Ladson, who posted three points and 11 rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Cailah Tucker, who put up 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Molly Daugherty, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points.

With the defeat, Berkeley broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-3. As for Summerville, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berkeley will welcome Fort Dorchester at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Summerville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Stratford at 7:00 p.m. Summerville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55 points per game this season.
