Basketball Preview: Minden Whippets vs. Adams Central Patriots
The Minden Whippets are on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Adams Central Patriots on February 6th. Hopefully Minden focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Minden faced the Swedes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Minden fell just short of the Swedes by a score of 45-43.
Despite the defeat, Minden had strong showings from Mattie Kamery, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Kinsie Land, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Kamery has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Rozie Nelson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Adams Central entered their tilt with the Dusters with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Adams Central managed a 49-43 victory over the Dusters on Saturday. Given Adams Central's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Dusters are ranked 90th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Minden's defeat dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Adams Central, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Minden came up short against the Patriots in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 45-36. Can Minden avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
