Basketball Recap: Coronado Cougars vs. Shadow Ridge Mustangs

On Friday, Coronado faced Shadow Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Coronado Cougars were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to the Shadow Ridge Mustangs. The Cougars just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Scarlet Lopez and Jayliana Glothon certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lopez dropped a double-double on ten points and ten steals, while Glothon went 8 of 13 on her way to 16 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Lopez a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Jones, who posted eight points and nine rebounds.

Shadow Ridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexa Madsen, who had 17 points. Madsen continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Avery Freeman was another key player, putting up 14 points.
