Basketball Recap: Franklin Academy Piles Up the Points Against Research Triangle

Franklin Academy came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 points), and they left with even more momentum. They took their game with ease, bagging a 77-36 win over the Research Triangle Raptors. The Patriots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten contests by 20 points or more this season.

Franklin Academy was led to victory by Hayes Lewis and Aiden Henrie. Lewis on his way to 23 points and three steals, while Henrie en route to 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Lewis has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Micah Rutledge, who posted eight points along with six boards and three steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Franklin Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Research Triangle's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sam Griffith, who scored 14 points and three steals. What's more, Griffith also posted a 18% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in November of 2024. Darien Venable was another key player, putting up 13 points and six rebounds.

Franklin Academy pushed their record up to 20-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.0 points over those games. As for Research Triangle, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.

Franklin Academy has already played their next game, an 86-51 win against NCSSM: Durham on the 22nd. Research Triangle does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
