Baseball Recap: Cottonwood Comes Up Short

Cottonwood entered their game against Stansbury on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Cottonwood took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Stansbury. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Cottonwood got a good showing from Quinn Mendenhall, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Mendenhall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Cottonwood saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Angel Mavarez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Cottonwood's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Stansbury, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-4.

While Cottonwood had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
