Basketball Recap: Gatewood Comes Up Short

Gatewood and Brentwood squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Gatewood had to settle for second. They were dealt a 56-29 loss at the hands of the Brentwood War Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 271st, while the War Eagles are ranked 73rd).

Brentwood's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cadence English, who almost dropped a double-double with 21 points and nine rebounds. The game was English's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Bailey Barron was another key player, putting up eight points along with ten boards and six blocks.

Gatewood has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-14 record this season. The win was the third in a row for Brentwood, bringing their record for this year to 19-6.

Gatewood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brentwood, they will challenge Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brentwood is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.5 points per game this season.
