Baseball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

Mattoon lost against Effingham back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Greenwave fell just short of the Hearts by a score of 4-3.

Mattoon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blaine Howell, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Mattoon's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 10-6. As for Effingham, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Hearts beat Mattoon by a score of 4-1 later that day.
