Basketball Recap: Ysleta Comes Up Short

Ysleta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Riverside Rangers and fell 62-19. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1422nd, while the Rangers are ranked 274th).

Riverside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Yazmin Rios led the charge by going 6 for 9 en route to 14 points and three steals. Rios has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hazel Veloz, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points and five steals.

Ysleta's loss dropped their record down to 5-19. As for Riverside, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.

Ysleta will host Fabens at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ysleta is facing Fabens at the right time seeing as Fabens is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Riverside, they will head out on the road to challenge Clint at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Riverside comes in on eight and Clint on three.
