Softball Game Preview: Volcano Vista Hawks vs. Farmington Scorpions

The Volcano Vista Hawks will take on the Farmington Scorpions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Volcano Vista is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.

Volcano Vista is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Rio Rancho, who was ranked 16th at the time (Volcano Vista was ranked 22nd). The Hawks fell 8-3 to the Rams on Thursday. The Hawks have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Breezy Griego made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lexi Trujillo, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Farmington didn't have quite enough to beat Cleveland on Friday and fell 3-2. The Scorpions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Farmington saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taelor Joe, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

Volcano Vista now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Farmington, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7-1.

Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Volcano Vista has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
