Softball Game Preview: Eunice Cardinals vs. Clovis Wildcats

The Eunice Cardinals will take on the Clovis Wildcats at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday. Clovis took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Eunice, who comes in off a win.

Eunice will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Monday, then bounced right back against Non Varsity Opponent on Monday. Eunice blew past Non Varsity Opponent 11-1. The Cardinals haven't had any issues with Non Varsity Opponent recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

McKayla Pierce was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Lorelai Key, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Meanwhile, Clovis was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 21st straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 21-9 to Goddard.

Jazlynn Chavez-Marin and Brooke Renteria did some serious damage despite the final result: Chavez-Marin scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Renteria scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Clovis' defeat dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Eunice, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Eunice was able to grind out a solid victory over Clovis when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 9-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for Eunice since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
