Softball Recap: Islip Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kings Park, Islip was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They came out on top against the Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats by a score of 5-2. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won five in a row.

Lauren Hofmann was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Hofmann was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Islip let Jessica Santiago and Katerina Mennecke run wild. Santiago got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base, while Mennecke got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave Mennecke a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Peighton Mckenna, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

The win got Islip back to even at 8-8-1. As for Shoreham-Wading River, they are on a 12-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Islip didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-3 victory against Hampton Bays on the 13th. Shoreham-Wading River has also already played their next match (against Mount Sinai), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
