Softball Game Preview: Riesel Indians vs. Moody Bearcats

The Riesel Indians will square off against the Moody Bearcats on Saturday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Riesel comes in on 17 and Moody on eight.

Riesel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over Whitewright.

Kyleigh Benton (UAM) spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lauren Summers (UAM), who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mollee Summers, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Moody took on Archer City on Saturday. The Bearcats walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Wildcats.

Riesel's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-4-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Moody, their win bumped their record up to 20-8-1.

Riesel was able to grind out a solid victory over Moody in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, winning 4-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
