Baseball Recap: Claiborne Takes a Loss

After soaring to 11 runs the game before, Claiborne was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They fell just short of the Cherokee Chiefs by a score of 3-2. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Chiefs recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Garrett Keiter and Sam Wilson put in work no matter where they played. Throwing, Keiter struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Meanwhile, Wilson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Keiter went 2-for-4 with one home run, while Wilson got on base in two of his three plate appearances with three stolen bases. That home run was Keiter's first of the season.

In other batting news, Emery Keiter made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Claiborne's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Cherokee, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-6.

While Claiborne had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
