Football Game Preview: Holmes County Blue Devils vs. Marianna Bulldogs

The Holmes County Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Marianna Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Holmes County has four straight wins, Marianna has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Holmes County's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past Vernon to the tune of 68-0. The Blue Devils' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Zarius Goodman and Egan Segers were among the main playmakers for Holmes County as the former gained 68 total yards and the latter threw for 88 yards and three TDs on only five passes. What's more, Segers racked up 143.8 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024.

Holmes County's run defense was locked in: Vernon could only muster 0.3 yards per carry. The Blue Devils' run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 3.25 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 8.63 on average over their last five games.

Holmes County didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Colton Jones, Bowden Bailey, and Landon Weeks picked up one apiece.

Meanwhile, Marianna had to suffer through a 35-6 loss at the hands of Leon.

Marianna's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Holmes County, they now have a winning record of 4-3.

Holmes County was taken down by Marianna 42-14 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Blue Devils, Rj Mayes (who threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 51 yards) won't be suiting up this time.
