Baseball Recap: Jay Wins Going Away Against Walton

Jay barely beat Walton the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Jay blew past Walton 9-1 on Thursday. Considering the Royals have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Bridger Hebb looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Jay is 5-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Grayson Shehan, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. He has become a key player for Jay: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise. Brady Godwin was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Jay pushed their record up to 9-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Walton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8-1.

Looking ahead, Jay is taking a road trip to square off against Northview at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Walton, they will take on Freeport at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Walton's pitchers better be ready for this one: Freeport has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
