Softball Recap: Steele Triumphs

It may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Steele ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Berea-Midpark Titans 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Comets in their matchups with the Titans: they've now won four in a row.

Karina Shuster spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Makenna Dorobek, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kayla Rhodes, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Steele's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Berea-Midpark, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-2.

Steele and Berea-Midpark should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Comets (ranked 54th) will meet Highland (ranked 436th) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Berea-Midpark will challenge Midview at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (62 vs. 251).
