Softball Recap: Ten Straight Home Wins for El Capitan

El Capitan came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Ash Fork/Seligman Spartans as they made off with an 11-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Danni Waters made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gracie Castor, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Emmie Tait was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

El Capitan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

El Capitan pushed their record up to 9-8-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Ash Fork/Seligman, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Capitan will host Window Rock at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. The Fighting Scouts have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.31 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ash Fork/Seligman, they will challenge Mayer at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
