Baseball Recap: Fayetteville Wins Going Away Against Woodland

Fayetteville lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Woodland, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's match. The Wolves were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Bobcats on Thursday. Considering the Wolves have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ethan Jones was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake McDaniel, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Connor Crumpton was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Fayetteville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Fayetteville is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Woodland, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fayetteville will challenge Reeltown at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Woodland, they will square off against Winterboro at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
