Softball Game Preview: Milpitas Trojans vs. Los Altos Eagles

The Milpitas Trojans will venture away from home to square off against the Los Altos Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Milpitas is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Milpitas had taken Mountain View down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Tuesday. The Trojans took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.

Marissa Gil spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits.

At the plate, Chloe Cabrera was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Meanwhile, Los Altos came up short against Westmont on Tuesday, falling 11-4. The loss continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost three in a row.

Sabrina Neal made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Neugebauer, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Los Altos' defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Milpitas, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Milpitas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Los Altos struggles in that department as they've averaged .326. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Milpitas came out on top in a nail-biter against Los Altos when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
