Softball Recap: Hancock Comes Up Short

Hancock fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Berkeley Springs on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 8-7. The Panthers have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Brooklyn McCusker spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Kayde Gaither was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Madi Trumpower, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Hancock's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Berkeley Springs, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-9.

Hancock has already played their next match (against Non Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Berkeley Springs, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 17-0 loss against Keyser on the 16th.
