Basketball Game Preview: Philip Simmons Iron Horses vs. Berkeley Stags

The Philip Simmons Iron Horses will venture away from home to face off against the Berkeley Stags at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Philip Simmons has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while Berkeley will arrive with three straight wins.

Last Monday, Philip Simmons lost to Wando on the road by a 50-31 margin. While losing is never fun, the Iron Horses can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Warriors are ranked fifth).

Harper Cohen was Philip Simmons' leading scorer, having posted eight points. Germany Moore took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, Berkeley got the win against West Ashley on Monday by a conclusive 60-35. The Stags have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 25 points or more this season.

Philip Simmons better focus on containing Demi Gray and Amani Mccray as the pair were huge in Berkeley's win. Gray posted 12 points and three steals, while Mccray almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. Gray has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Madison Thomas was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Berkeley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Berkeley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 42.2 points. As for Philip Simmons, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Philip Simmons ended up a good deal behind Berkeley in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, losing 50-36. Can Philip Simmons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
