Softball Game Preview: Rocklin Thunder vs. Pleasant Grove Eagles

The Rocklin Thunder will challenge the Pleasant Grove Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Rocklin 1.6, Pleasant Grove 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Rocklin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of California's top teams: Whitney, who was ranked 24th at the time (Rocklin was ranked 11th). The Thunder walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Wildcats on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Thunder.

Payton Prior spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Katie Wetteland, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Lorenzini, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove entered their tilt with Ponderosa on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 12-2 win. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly ten runs.

Pleasant Grove also let their pitcher toss all six innings played and she was also dialed-in: Madeline Lawson gave up just two earned runs on four hits. Those hits were Lawson's first of the season.

At the plate, Logan Paredes was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Natalie Brozaitis was another key player, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4.

Pleasant Grove was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Rocklin, their win bumped their record up to 11-2.
