Basketball Recap: Owyhee's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Tuesday

Owyhee suffered their closest defeat since December 27, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Elko Indians by a score of 62-59. The Braves' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the defeat, Owyhee saw an underclassman step up: freshman Micah Phoenix went 6 for 13 on his way to 18 points. Those 18 points gave Phoenix a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rolando Espitia, who went 6 of 9 en route to 13 points.

Owyhee's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Elko, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Owyhee will square off against Lund at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Elko, they will face off against Fernley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Elko has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
