Volleyball Recap: Stoughton Vikings vs. McFarland Spartans

Stoughton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of the McFarland Spartans by a score of 2-1. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September.

Stoughton started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 15-7.

McFarland got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kendall Riemen out in front who had eight digs and three aces. Riemen is on a roll when it comes to aces, as she's now served three or more in the last four games she's played dating back to last season. Claire Doty was another key player, getting nine digs.

Stoughton's loss dropped their record down to 25-11. As for McFarland, their record is now 14-18.

Stoughton will challenge Beaver Dam at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Beaver Dam is coming into the matchup with four straight victories on the road, so Stoughton will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. McFarland has already played their next match, a 2-1 defeat against Portage on the 12th.
