Basketball Recap: Needville Bluejays vs. Wharton Tigers

The Needville Bluejays won against the Wharton Tigers last Tuesday with 51 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Needville walked away with a 51-44 win over the Tigers. Given Needville's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 319th, while the Tigers are ranked 909th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Needville was led to victory by Caden Slater and Keilan Sweeny. Slater scored 11 points along with six rebounds and five assists, while Sweeny scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Sweeny has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was Bohdan Zeitz, who scored ten points.

Wharton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacoryan Dickerson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds. Dickerson is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games he's played. Carlton Scott II was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Needville is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. As for Wharton, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-16.

Needville will be playing at home against the Ricebirds at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday. El Campo will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Wharton, they will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Royal will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
