Basketball Recap: Gillespie Comes Up Short

Gillespie was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They fell 71-62 to the Hillsboro Hiltoppers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Miners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 69-50 last Friday.

Hillsboro's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Nathan Matoush led the charge by going 7 of 15 on his way to 21 points. The game was Matoush's third in a row with at least ten points. Tony White was another key player, going 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points.

Gillespie's loss dropped their record down to 1-11. As for Hillsboro, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Gillespie will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Edinburg at 7:15 p.m. on January 7, 2025. As for Hillsboro, they will welcome Altamont at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Hillsboro is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season.
