Softball Recap: Neptune Takes a Loss

If Neptune was riding high fresh off their 17-6 takedown of Long Branch last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Scarlet Fliers fell 8-4 to the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Scarlet Fliers of the 15-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Kadidja Braxton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and one unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gianna Massimino made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was her first of the season.

Neptune's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Rumson-Fair Haven, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Neptune will head out on the road to take on Point Pleasant Beach at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Rumson-Fair Haven, they will be playing at home against Monmouth Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
