Football Recap: Red Springs Takes a Loss

The Red Springs Red Devils came up short against the Pender Patriots on Friday and fell 36-28.

Despite the loss, Red Springs still got an impressive performance from Chase Boone, who threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 106 yards and one TD on only ten carries.

Pender got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Austin Deal out in front who rushed for 125 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 40 yards and one touchdown. Those 40 passing yards gave Deal a new career-high. Pender also got a significant boost from Jaheim Lambe, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 155 yards.

Red Springs' loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Pender, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Looking ahead, Red Springs will challenge St. Pauls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pender, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Wallace-Rose Hill at 7:00 p.m. on the 12th.
