Basketball Recap: Cartersville Takes a Loss

Cartersville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 62-50 to the Sonoraville Phoenix. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hurricanes of the 69-52 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Cartersville lost, don't look at Nas Bennett. Despite the final result, he posted 21 points in addition to six boards and three steals. With that strong performance, Bennett is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Thomason, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 boards.

Even though they lost, Cartersville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive games.

Cartersville's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Sonoraville, their win bumped their record up to 4-10.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cartersville will host Rome at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sonoraville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rockmart at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
