Alexia Gonzalez and Jaylyn Quezada secure win for Sierra Grande

Recap: Sierra Grande Panthers vs. Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds

The Sierra Grande Panthers entered their tilt with the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Sierra Grande sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 48-46 win over Sangre de Cristo on Friday. This was payback for Sierra Grande, who suffered a 54-40 loss the last time these two teams met.

Sierra Grande was led to victory by Alexia Gonzalez and Jaylyn Quezada. Gonzalez scored 16 points along with five steals, while Quezada went 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 0 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Quezada has scored all season.

Sangre de Cristo lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaydra Cordova, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Presley Wilson, who scored 16 points along with two steals.

Even though they lost, Sangre de Cristo were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sierra Grande only posted two assists.

Sierra Grande is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. As for Sangre de Cristo, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.

Sierra Grande won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Centennial at 4:00 p.m. on February 10th.
