Baseball Game Preview: Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers vs. Avalon Black Knights

Georgetown Day hasn't had much luck against Avalon recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mighty Hoppers will head out to challenge the Black Knights at 4:30 p.m. Georgetown Day is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

Georgetown Day is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of District of Columbia's top teams: Bell, who was ranked tenth at the time (Georgetown Day was ranked fifth). The Mighty Hoppers' pitchers stepped up to hand the Griffins a 17-0 shutout on Thursday. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Mighty Hoppers yet this season.

Meanwhile, Avalon fell victim to Jackson-Reed and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They came up short against the Tigers, falling 14-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Black Knights' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Avalon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Stepanik, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Stepanik has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Avalon's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Georgetown Day, their win bumped their record up to 6-8.
