Softball Recap: Wheatland Gets the Win

Wheatland hadn't done well against Lincoln recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wheatland Pirates walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Lincoln Fighting Zebras. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 9-2 win the Fighting Zebras walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2021.

Chasidy Sills was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Raelynn Hulsey and Ella Woolery did most of the damage at the plate: Hulsey scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Woolery scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. That stolen base was Hulsey's first of the season. Gwendylyn Chan was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Wheatland now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Lincoln, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatland will square off against Mira Loma at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wheatland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Lincoln, they will face off against Marysville at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lincoln has given up an average of 14.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
