Baseball Recap: Cary Comes Up Short

Cary extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 10-5. They lost 9-0 to the Green Hope Falcons. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Imps' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Cary saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Penn Joyce, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Green Hope, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-13. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Green Hope's side, the result came thanks to Blake Vestal's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. Vestal also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Falcons are 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Sam Weinraub was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Elijah Martin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cary will venture away from home to take on Middle Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Imps' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Green Hope, they will head out to square off against Green Level at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
