Preview: East New York Family Academy vs. Summit Academy Eagles
East New York Family Academy will stay at home for another game and welcome the Summit Academy Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on February 12th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Wednesday, East New York Family Academy didn't have too much trouble with Longwood Prep Academy at home as they won 65-47.
Arianna Mercado was her usual excellent self, scoring 31 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of East New York Family Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Amariah Clyne, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Summit Academy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 41 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They secured a 53-48 W over Jay.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Summit Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sariah Gammon, who scored 21 points along with five rebounds and two steals. Gammon hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. Chloe Freeman was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
East New York Family Academy's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for Summit Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-4 record this season.
Monday's contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: East New York Family Academy have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 30.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Summit Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 41 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
East New York Family Academy took their win against Summit Academy in their previous meeting back in January of 2022 by a conclusive 67-47. Will East New York Family Academy repeat their success, or does Summit Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
