Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Newton). They blew past Woodville 72-26 on Friday. Newton pushed the score to 58-20 by the end of the third, a deficit Woodville had no chance of recovering from.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Deldrick Samuel and Kendray Porter. Samuel rushed for 134 yards and four touchdowns on only nine carries while Porter rushed for 135 yards and three scores on only 13 carries. Porter has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

Newton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 353 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 315 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.

Newton's defense made their presence known, laying out Luke Babin six times. The heavy lifting was done by Kaleb Burnham and Justin Bray, who racked up four sacks between them. Newton got some further help from Ivan Gatson: he picked up a sack and made eight total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Woodville's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Babin, who threw for 218 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt. Gage Tolar was in the mix too, providing Woodville with two scores.

Newton's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points over those games.
