Softball Recap: Cumby Comes Up Short

Cumby was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hawkins Hawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Hawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-2 last Tuesday.

Ella Horne made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-3. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jenna Elmore, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI.

Cumby's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Hawkins, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-8-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cumby will take on Martins Mill at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hawkins, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Hawkins Hawks face off against Como-Pickton Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. They will need to watch out since Como-Pickton has now posted at least ten runs in their last seven contests.
