Softball Game Preview: Lamesa Tornadoes vs. Alpine Bucks

Lamesa is a perfect 3-0 against Alpine since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tornadoes will challenge the Bucks at 5:00 p.m. Lamesa has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with four straight defeats, while Alpine will come in with nine straight wins.

On Monday, Lamesa came up short against Seminole and fell 17-12.

Meanwhile, Alpine made easy work of Kermit on Thursday and carried off an 11-1 victory. The Bucks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by six runs or more this season.

Kody Hawkins was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Zariah Galvan and Rikki Vega did most of the damage at the plate: Galvan went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Vega got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs. Kacy Hawkins was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Alpine hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 9-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Lamesa's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Alpine, the win got them back to even at 14-14.

Lamesa came out on top in a nail-biter against Alpine in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Bucks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
